Summer on Mission: Week 4

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in... Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these." - Matthew 25:35,40

This past weekend was World Refugee Day, and we would like to highlight two ongoing realities affecting families across Africa.

In Malawi, refugees continue to face significant challenges, including limited opportunities, ongoing protection concerns, and uncertainty about the future. As families seek safety and stability, we invite you to pray for justice, compassion, and lasting solutions.

Closer to home, Houston is welcoming an increasing number of South African refugee families fleeing violence, displacement, and insecurity in their communities. As attacks on homes and businesses continue, many have been forced to leave behind everything familiar in search of safety and a fresh start.

While these stories may seem different, they are deeply connected.

As our partners at Inua Advocacy reminded us, thousands of African nationals—including many Malawians—have faced xenophobic attacks and persecution in parts of South Africa. Some are now seeking repatriation to Malawi after experiencing violence and discrimination in the very places where they hoped to build a future. Displacement takes many forms.

South African families fleeing violence, Malawian families fleeing xenophobia, and refugees living in camps across Africa are all in search of safety, dignity, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

Please pray with us for protection for those forced to flee, for peace in communities marked by violence and division, and for host nations and local churches to welcome refugees with love, compassion, and the hope of Jesus.
