Summer on Mission: Week 7
It was so good to be back in Africa! With Sam leading the work there so amazingly, Joe visiting on a regular basis, and the UK office sending regular teams, I’ve been more focused on Central America and working with our partners virtually. Other than England, my very first international trip was to Africa, and it was such a blessing to be back.
After an incredible week being a part of the Gospel Partners Conference in South Africa with Northpoint City Church in Johannesburg, I took a few days to visit the Links Africa Hub in Kenya. The work happening at the Hub is incredible! Not only is Sam overseeing all of the Links projects across Africa, he is coordinating an impressive community outreach program at the Hub.
It was an honor to spend a morning training community leaders on the topic of Managing Mental Health, as mental illness is more and more prevalent around the world, but with fewer resources to help. It was easy to see how this network of leaders is working well to bring peace and hope to the entire community. The Hub is also becoming more and more sustainable through farming which allows them to hire young adults with special needs to have the dignity of income they earn.
Both the heart and history of Links were on full display in the few days I got to experience the Hub. Not only is the current work growing, but there are people in the area who remember being in training sessions with Norman from the earlier days of Links. As we visited projects, there were (of course) connections very close to people that are close to me, and there’s always a very real awareness that God always goes before us as he takes His good news to all of the places we go.
There’s nothing like visiting the other side of the world to both stand in awe of the goodness of God and to see how much more work there always is to be done.
Please be praying for Sam and everyone at the Links Africa Hub, for all of our partners in Africa, and for the provision of resources to continually be available for all that God has ahead on this great continent.
